Press release: High-Powered Speakers Lined Up For 10th Annual iWeek Conference
Published on: 2011-06-09The Internet Service Providers’ Association of South Africa (ISPA) and UniForum SA (the co.za administrators) have announced that registration is now open for their 10th annual iWeek conference, to be held in Pretoria from 21 – 23 September 2011.
The conference has drawn a range of high-powered speakers including Mxit’s Juan du Toit. The organisations have planned a bumper edition of South Africa’s premier Internet and telecom conference this year to celebrate a number of key milestones including iWeek’s 10th birthday, ISPA’s 15th anniversary and the 10th birthday of the Teachers’ Training initiative.
A number of top local and international speakers will present at the conference this year, which is based on the theme “How the Internet has changed societies”. The speakers will come to iWeek from six continents and will provide insights into topics as diverse as the underground economy, open spectrum, challenges of scaling, social networking and e-learning.
Just a few of the speakers include:
- Dr. Roger Leslie Cottrell from the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford University in the US
- Peter Coroneos, chief executive of the Internet Industry Association (IIA)
- Jack Unger, president of Ask-Wi.Com
- Ramy Raoof, online media officer at the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights
The second meeting of the International Internet Industry Alliance (IIIA) and the Wireless Access Providers’ Association’s general meeting will also take place at the same venue over the same dates.
Each year, iWeek attracts speakers and attendees from a broad spectrum of the most important players in South Africa’s telecommunications industry including representatives from Internet service providers, product resellers, network operators, telecom end-users, government and the ICT-focused legal fraternity.
Sponsorship from companies like, Ad Dynamo, who operates an international pay per click advertising marketplace, and Vox Telecom, South Africa’s leading independent telecoms operator which provides data and voice services, shows that the interest from key industry players proves that this year’s iWeek is to be a truly successful event.
iWeek 2011 is a free conference, and most of the proceedings are open to anyone involved in the Internet industry. The event takes place at Royal Elephant, Eldoraigne, Centurion, South Africa.
