Prenesh Padayachee holds an Electronic Engineering (EE) qualification from the Durban Institute of Technology and has completed several Management and Global Leadership programs.
He joined Internet Solutions, a Dimension Data group company as an engineer in 1998 and has held various technical and senior Operations positions. Mr. Padayachee was appointed as Group Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in 2005. Prior to joining Internet Solutions he worked at IBM as a Technical Advisory Specialist, however Mr. Padayachee started his career as a field services engineer in the financial services sector where he was responsible for the design and conversion of the banking network from a traditional polled banking network into an end to end IP based network. This network was one of the first full IP deployments in South Africa to run on dynamic routing protocols from branch level all the way through to the main frame.
His role as CTO was the development and implementation of the company’s global technology strategy, as well as the management of all technology related divisions, including network design and operations; data centre design and operations; OSS and BSS strategy and management for both the local as well as international subsidiaries. During his tenure at Internet Solutions he also served as a board member of Dimension Data South Africa as well as Always On, a WiFi subsidiary of Internet Solutions.
Mr Padayachee joined the Telkom group in January 2015 as the Managing Director of the Wholesale division and was tasked with creating a standalone entity that served the entire licensed telecoms market on an equitable basis, including any internal Telkom operating entities. This subsequently evolved into transitioning not only the wholesale division but the entire field services organisation into one organisation that sold and serviced the entire telecoms sector equally, effecting true wholesale and retail separation. This involved the transition of over 9000 staff members into an organisation with new client centric values focused on lowering the cost to communicate and superior service delivery. On his departure from Openserve he held the position of Chief Sales and Marketing Officer where he spearheaded revenue growth and product and service excellence, ultimately improving customer satisfaction ratings by 75% for Openserve. Apart from his vast knowledge of the network technology environment, as well as strategy formulation and execution, Mr Padayachee has vast experience at both executive and board level.
Mr Padayachee ran his own Consulting and Solutions company specialising in the telecoms arena on strategy formulation for go to market ; product design ; pricing models ; RFP crafting and analysis as well as products specific to the telecoms sector.
In 2020 he joined Seacom as Group Chief Digital officer where he has taken over the responsibility of both the CTO and the CIO functions within the organisation. His responsibilities span technology as well as systems from daily operations all the way through to group strategy for both these areas of the business.
