Tauriq Brown

CEO of Too Much Wifi

Too Much Wifi’s mission is to bring the internet to the townships of South Africa and beyond. He believes this is the only real and scalable answer to the social-ill’s we are dealing with in this post-apartheid, digital world.

Although born & raised on the “Cape Flats” in Cape Town, South Africa, Tauriq spent the majority his adult life working and living abroad.

He has crafted his career around entrepreneurship, start-ups, and tech-based businesses across various industries in 20+ countries where he has held senior executive positions with companies such as Groupon (the fastest growing company ever), Zando (Jumia group, NASDAQ listed), Lazada (exited to Alibaba China for $4b), Delivery Hero (listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange at €5B), Reebonz (listed on the NASDAQ), Mountain Partners (global Swiss venture capital fund) and City Ventures ($320m portfolio).

After being caught up in a warzone and his wife giving birth in Myanmar during the Covid lockdown, he recently moved back to South Africa from Canada to do something less commercially orientated and more socially driven i.e., he is now the CEO of Too Much Wifi.

He studied for his undergraduate degree at Stellenbosch University and postgraduate degree at Johannesburg University in investment management and financial planning albeit early on choosing to pursue a career as an entrepreneur after a finance internship at FirstRand Bank.

Outside of his day-to-day work, Tauriq enjoys reading, podcasts, padel, surfing and soccer (although not professionally anymore) and loves to travel with his wife, Liana and daughter, Yara. He is devoted to his family and his inspiration is his grandfather, who was tragically murdered during Apartheid without real justice.

Tauriq’s motto is, “Start small, dream big”.
