Gavin Burgess

Gavin is the Managing Director of Technology Partners (Pty) Ltd, a Managed Services Provider and ICT Project Management company in South Africa.He has 18 years’ experience in the ICT sector, with specific focus on verticals in the MICE industry (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events), as well as the Legal and Financial Services industries.Having studied both Computer Sciences as well as the Social Sciences separately, his special interest area is human-machine interaction.

In addition to his executive role at Technology Partners, he practices as a senior Systems Analyst and works hand-in-hand with clients during fixed duration projects such as large business events, conferences, and exhibitions that require specific emphasis on ICT project management and ICT supply chain management. Gavin leads a multidisciplinary team that achieves robust and consistent deliverables via the Agile approach.

Gavin currently serves as the Marketing Chair of the Event Greening Forum, a non-profit organisation that advocates for sustainability in the business events sector.

In collaboration with the Event Greening Forum, Gavin further developed the organisation’s methodology for the implementation of incentives at business events by creating a cashless trading platform for local arts and crafts vendors to transact with international buyers in a sustainable manner – boosting local economy and saving costs for event organisers on conference gifting budgets. In 2019, Gavin was named one of the Global 100 Leaders in the MICE Industry, and was invited to present the concept of Sustainability Villages at events in South Africa at the Global MICE Congress in Mumbai, India.

Gavin is also a board member of the Exhibition & Event Association of Southern Africa (EXSA). In the Legal and Financial Services industries, Gavin works with mid to large sized attorney firms to develop their in-house technological processes. Since 2003, Gavin has worked extensively with attorneys on accounting processes that require highly secure systems communications over both public internet and private intranet levels. In 2016, Gavin commenced working with machine-learning algorithms that are used in this sector to optimise financial processes for accounts receivables.
Gavin presents training courses on cyber security, as well as banking fraud awareness for finance teams.
