Guide to ISPA logos

ISPA is an industry body representing more than 200 different Internet service providers in South Africa. While we cannot make specific recommendations to consumers on choosing a service provider, we do provide a number of resources to help identify members who might best be able to offer particular services. This page is a guide to those resources.

ISPA’s Code of Conduct
All members are required to comply with ISPA’s Code of Conduct. By choosing an ISPA member as your service provider, you have some additional recourse if that member does not meet the standards required by our Code. ISPA provides a free mediation service to assist customers who are unable to resolve service complaints with our members.

When reviewing ISPs, look for one of the following logos on the company’s website:

Service search
If you are looking for a particular type of service, ISPA’s member search tool may be useful. Select the services that you need and click search to view a list of members providing those services. You will be able to view each member’s profile on the ISPA site, or jump directly to their website.

Domain name services
When registering domain names it is important to ensure that your ISP registers the domain in your name, and not in the name of the hosting company. If a domain is registered in your name, you have the right to transfer it to another service provider if you wish to do so. ISPA maintains a list of members who always register domains in the name of their clients.

If domain name security is important to you, you will want to make sure that the company providing you with domain name services is able to offer those services in a secure manner, preferably using DNSSEC. ISPA publishes a guide to members offering secure domain name services.

Look for the following logo to confirm that you are dealing with a service provider with experience in domain name security:

Secure networks
As a consumer, you are always at risk of falling foul of malware, phishing attempts and other online scams. Some ISPs take extra steps to monitor the security of their customers’ machines while they are connected to the Internet, and will notify you if they detect that you have a compromised PC.

Look for the iCode logo to identify companies who go the extra mile to ensure that you have a safe online experience:
