Mlindi J. Kgamedi

Mlindi has extensive knowledge and experience in Telecommunications and Broadcasting Regulation with over 20 years of telecommunications Regulatory experience in Fixed and Mobile Network environments.

He joined the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), formerly the South African Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (SATRA) in 1999 as a Technologist until 2003 when he was appointed as an Advisor to Council.

In 2005, with a change in the South African Telecommunications Legislation, Mlindi undertook the process of converting all WBS Licences to conform with the newly adopted Licensing framework of the Country.

He worked for Wireless Business Solutions (WBS) “iBurst” from 2006 as Head Regulatory Affairs. He joined the Department of Communications in 2009 as Chief Director – Office of the Director General and later as Chief Director – ICT Infrastructure responsible for the implementation of the South African Broadband Policy. Mlindi rejoined iBurst [now rain (Pty) Ltd] in 2011 from the Department. He has acquired a number of critical Radio Frequency Spectrum Licences for WBS including the 2.6GHz (LTE Spectrum), 1800MHz (GSM and LTE Spectrum) and Microwave Spectrum in the 10.5GHz, 15GHz and 23GHz.

He is currently the Chief Regulatory Officer at rain (Pty) Ltd and has been responsible for overseeing and managing the Regulatory Affairs and Compliance.

Mlindi holds a National Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Light Current) from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and Management Development Programme from Stellenbosch University.
