South Africa’s longest-running Internet industry conference, iWeek, will feature a strong international contingent when it kicks off next month from 4 to 7 September at Durban’s Southern Sun Elangeni and Maharani.

The overseas element includes the Internet Society’s hosting of ION Durban during iWeek. ION Conferences are part of the Internet society’s ‘Deploy360 Programme’ and bring network engineers and leading industry experts together to discuss emerging technologies while early adopters provide valuable insight into their own deployment experiences.

Live-streaming of the Internet Society’s Thursday, 7 September ION Durban event will help increase the reach of the event. Worldwide ION events enable network operators to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to understanding and deploying emerging Internet technologies. Livestream information will be available at http://www.internetsociety.org/deploy360/ion/durban2017/.

“Attending ION Durban in person, or via live-streaming, is a unique opportunity to listen in and participate in discussions around the future of the Internet with the people who help craft it,” says Megan Kruse, the Internet Society’s Manager for Technology Outreach & Strategic Planning.

She adds that ION events provide hands-on interaction with world-renowned speakers so attendees walk away with the answers they need to deploy new standards and technologies across their own networks.

The agenda for ION Durban includes addresses by the global Internet Society and the Society’s Gauteng Chapter, an update around IPv6 Deployment in Africa, a panel discussion on MANRS, Routing Security, and Collaboration; NAT64 experiments; an Introduction to DNSSEC; and Internet Standards and How to Get Involved, amongst other topics.

The Southern African Network Operators Group (SAFNOG) will also add an international flavour to iWeek. SAFNOG is a grouping of Internet industry professionals dedicated to building and sustaining communities of network operators in the Southern African region.

Other key partners for this year include INX-ZA, the ZA Domain Name Authority (ZADNA), the ZA Central Registry (ZACR), WAPA and WASPA.

As always, attendance at iWeek remains free, however, registration is required at www.iweek.org.za.
