MXiT, Egyptian Human Rights Speakers Headline Internet Industry Annual Dialogue

An international flavour will permeate this year’s iWeek as speakers from six continents are billed to speak at the South African Internet industry’s premier annual gathering, while the International Internet Industry Alliance (IIIA) and the Wireless Access Providers’ Association hold their annual meetings simultaneously.

Joining the ever-popular Juan Du Toit from MXiT will be Peter Coroneos, chief executive of the Internet Industry Association (IIA), Dr. Roger Leslie Cottrell from the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford University, Jack Unger, president of Ask-Wi.Com and Ramy Raoof, online media officer at the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights.

The Internet Service Providers’ Association of South Africa (ISPA) and UniForum SA (the co.za administrators) recently announced that registration is open for the 10th annual iWeek conference to be held from 21 to 23 September 2011. These two organisations have planned a bumper edition of South Africa’s premier Internet and telecoms conference to celebrate a number of key milestones including ISPA’s 15th anniversary and the 10th birthday of the Teachers’ Training initiative.

A number of top local and international speakers will debate the theme “How the Internet has changed societies”. The speakers will come to iWeek from six continents and will provide insights into topics as diverse as the underground economy, open spectrum, challenges of scaling, social networking and e-learning.

Each year, iWeek attracts speakers and attendees from a broad spectrum of the most important players in South Africa’s telecommunications industry including representatives from Internet service providers, product resellers, network operators, telecom end-users, government and the ICT-focused legal fraternity.

iWeek 2011 is a free conference and most of the proceedings are open to anyone involved in the Internet industry. The event takes place at Royal Elephant, Eldoraigne, Centurion, South Africa.

One can also expect to see key involvement from MTN Business Solutions, Ad Dynamo, and Vox Telecom as key industry players within the Internet industry. It is with this in mind that MTN Business has announced that the business will be the Diamond sponsor for the upcoming iWeek.

This participation reinforces that as a company MTN Business is committed to – and supports – the further growth of the Internet across Africa as well as the progression of the telecoms industry as a whole and therefore, MTN Business is proud of their association with ISPA.
