Global flavour for iWeek 2010 as IIIA attends

With South Africa in the grip of international soccer fever, it is appropriate that this year’s iWeek Conference will have an equally global flavour. This year, the International Internet Industry Alliance (IIIA) will hold its annual meeting under the auspices of iWeek. The IIIA was formed in 2007 as a forum for ISP organisations from around the world to share information and collaborate on issues of mutual interest.

The Alliance will discuss the crucial issue of mutual co-operation between Internet Service Provider (ISP) associations around the world.

Hosted by the Internet Service Providers’ Association of South Africa (ISPA) and UniForum SA, the annual iWeek Conference is now in its 9th iteration.

This year’s event will bring together representatives of ISP associations from six continents.

These key players will debate and discuss Internet industry developments across the globe. Particular issues of international importance that will be focused on include: cybercrime, copyright, net neutrality, domain names, content liability, privacy and data retention.

Recognised as South Africa’s premier conference for the Internet industry, it is no surprise that iWeek 2010 has already lined up a strong roster of sponsors. As it did last year, leading tier-1 Internet service provider MTN Business is the platinum sponsor, with converged communications network operator Neotel a gold sponsor. In addition, leading alternative telecom operator Vox Telecom is the silver sponsor.

All the proceedings at the conference, excluding the IIIA meeting, are open to anyone involved in the Internet industry. This year’s event will take place from 15 – 17 September 2010 at Kloofzicht Lodge, 1747 Kromdraai Road, Muldersdrift, South Africa.

In addition to the IIIA’s participation, Internet industry representatives from Australia, the US, the European Union, Argentina, India and South Africa will partake in the conference. There will also be a special guest speaker from the FBI’s Cyber Division, who will present a keynote address on global cybercrime and the role ISPs can play in combating it.

As the premier Internet industry event in the country, iWeek attracts speakers and attendees from a broad spectrum of important players across the ICT industry. There is also something for everyone at iWeek. Corporate IT and network executives, senior managers, strategists and product vendors can all add to their industry knowledge.

At the same time, emerging ISPs and start-up Internet Cafés will find the wealth of contacts and exposure especially valuable for fast-tracking their growth.

Attendance at iWeek 2010 is free, and registrations can be done online at www.iweek.org.za.
